I think the top guys knew this and bailed (one is a convicted felon already) the other guys got a lawyer who told them to shut the F up, delete all social media and say nothing, as anything they say can accidentally implicate them in the inevitable legal and criminal shitstorm that will follow.

This unfortunately happens all too much in automotive consignment, where they can keep it going for a fairly long time by "floating" the registration where the buyer never gets registration and no one knows the original owner never got paid. So my read is they started using consignment sales money to pay off things other than the owners of the watch.
